FC Barcelona has successfully completed the registration of veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, making him available for selection in their upcoming La Liga match against Levante. This move comes after a series of financial and administrative challenges that had previously delayed his inclusion in the squad.
Szczęsny, who rejoined Barcelona in October 2024 following Marc-André ter Stegen’s season-ending injury, had been awaiting official registration to comply with La Liga’s salary cap regulations.
The club’s efforts to register players were hindered by the need to offload certain squad members to balance the wage bill. Notably, the departure of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña to Elche was instrumental in creating the necessary space for Szczęsny’s registration.
Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, had expressed his desire to have a full-strength squad, including Szczęsny, available for the Levante fixture. The club had prioritized the registration of versatile defender Gerard Martín, and with that process now complete, Szczęsny’s inclusion was the next step.
The 35-year-old Polish international has been a reliable presence for Barcelona, contributing significantly to their defensive lineup. His experience and leadership are expected to bolster the team’s prospects as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the league.
With Szczęsny now officially part of the squad, Barcelona can look forward to a strengthened lineup as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the 2025–26 La Liga season.
