DUBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Pakistani cricketers Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf. The move comes amid rising tensions during the Asia Cup 2025.
According to the complaint, the BCCI accused Farhan of making a provocative gesture during his celebration. He allegedly used his bat in a style that resembled a firearm. Haris Rauf was also accused of mocking India with a β6-0β hand gesture, seen by some as a reference to recent military tensions between the two countries.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) strongly rejected the allegations. The PCB stated that the complaint reflects double standards and pointed to a previous incident involving Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav.
In September, Yadav linked Indiaβs victory over Pakistan to actions of the Indian military. At that time, the PCB had officially protested to the ICC, calling the statement a violation of cricketβs spirit.
The BCCIβs complaint has once again highlighted how cricket between India and Pakistan often carries political undertones. Analysts say such disputes add more pressure on players while fueling heated discussions across social media platforms.
Despite the off-field controversy, the Asia Cup continues in Dubai. Pakistan is set to face Bangladesh in a crucial Super Four clash today. The winner of this match will secure a place in the final, where they are likely to meet India on Sunday.
The BCCI insists its complaint is aimed at maintaining discipline and sportsmanship in cricket. Meanwhile, the PCB argues that selective actions damage the integrity of the game. The ICC has yet to issue an official response.
