Chelsea edges Liverpool 2-1 with stoppage-time goal

Chelsea

In a gripping Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea won 2-1 over Liverpool. An 18-year-old substitute netted the winner in added time to seal victory.

Chelsea struck first when Moisรฉs Caicedo fired a long shot past Liverpoolโ€™s keeper. Liverpool equalised in the 63rd minute through Cody Gakpo. The game seemed destined for a draw until late drama. In the 90+5 minute, Estevรฃo Willian tapped in the decisive goal from a Marc Cucurella cross.

The result ends Liverpoolโ€™s three-match losing streak and boosts Chelseaโ€™s confidence. Chelsea now move up in the table, while Liverpool drop points in a rare slip.

Chelseaโ€™s coach, Enzo Maresca, was dismissed after receiving a second yellow card. He ran down the touchline in celebration and had to leave the technical area. His absence in the closing moments did not hinder his team.

Chelsea had injury problems going into this fixture. They lost two centre-backs during the match, pushing the squadโ€™s depth to its limits. Maresca had admitted earlier that Chelsea were missing โ€œseven or eight playersโ€ through injuries and suspensions.

Earlier in the season, Chelsea encountered challenges in cup competitions as well. In their Carabao Cup tie against Lincoln City, Chelsea trailed at half-time but turned the game around to win 2-1. Young players like Tyrique George and Facundo Buonanotte played key roles in that recovery.

As the season proceeds, Chelsea must manage squad fatigue and maintain momentum. The injury list remains long, so relying on academy players and bench strength will be vital. Maresca has expressed faith in his younger squad members to step up.

For Liverpool, this defeat raises concerns about consistency and mental toughness, especially in tight matches. Chelsea showed resilience under pressure and executed in the final moments. That may be a sign of growing maturity in their campaign.
