Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders recently opened up about his serious health challenges in a new video update. Though he did not disclose specific details about his illness, Sanders revealed that the situation was grave enough for him to make a will.
βI had to make a will,β Sanders said in the video. βThatβs not easy, at all, to think that you might not be there, but you want to make sure everybody is straight.β This honest statement showed the seriousness of his health scare and the care he took to prepare for the worst.
Despite the concern, Sandersβ son, Deion Sanders Jr., offered a hopeful update. He described his fatherβs experience as a βhard-fought battleβ that was ultimately βfought and won.β This message brought relief to fans who have been following Sandersβ condition closely.
Details about Sandersβ illness remain limited. Earlier reports from ESPNβs Heather Dinich in June noted that Sanders had been ill and absent from his duties, including missing Coloradoβs summer football camps. Last month, Sanders reassured fans via social media, saying he was βokayβ and would share more information when he returned to Boulder.
βI can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so,β Sanders wrote. βGod got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God.β He expressed excitement about rejoining his team and staff.
At Big 12 Media Days, Sanders focused attention on his team rather than his health. βIβm not here to talk about my health,β he said. βIβm here to talk about my team.β
Though he is on the path to recovery, Sanders admitted he has not fully healed. In a video posted on July 20, he stated, βYou know Iβm still going through something, I ainβt all the way recovered.β
Colorado recently announced that Sanders and his medical team will hold a press conference on Monday to provide updates about the team and his health status.
In Sandersβ second season as head coach, Colorado finished with a strong 9-4 record, their best since 2016. The Buffaloes are preparing to move forward after losing star players Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL draft.
