EA Sold to Investors in Historic $55 Billion Deal

EA

Electronic Arts, known for games like Madden NFL and The Sims, has been sold to investors in a $55 billion deal.

The acquisition is led by a consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), private equity firm Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.

Shareholders will receive $210 per share, which is a 25% premium over EA’s closing price on September 25, 2025. The deal includes $36 billion in equity and $20 billion in debt financing.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, pending regulatory and shareholder approval.

CEO Andrew Wilson will continue to lead EA after the deal. The company will remain headquartered in Redwood City, California.

The move to take EA private is intended to allow the company more freedom to innovate. Investors and management believe it will help EA focus on long-term strategies without public market pressures.

This deal is now the largest private equity buyout in history. It surpasses the previous record held by TXU Energy in 2007.

The announcement caused EA’s stock price to surge, reflecting strong investor confidence. Analysts say the acquisition could reshape the gaming industry.

EA’s portfolio, including EA Sports FC, Battlefield, and The Sims, makes it a highly valuable company. The investors aim to leverage these franchises for growth and expansion.

Market observers note that taking EA private may lead to faster decision-making and more aggressive innovation in games and technologies.

The acquisition highlights the growing interest of large investors in the gaming industry. EA’s sale shows that major game companies remain highly sought-after assets worldwide.
