India has announced its squad for the T20 World Cup, set to take place from February 7 to March 8 across eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. The squad will also participate in a five-match home T20 series against New Zealand next month.
Shubman Gill has struggled for form in T20 Internationals, going 18 innings without a fifty, and missed Fridayโs match against South Africa due to a foot injury. Sanju Samson replaced him as Abhishek Sharmaโs opening partner in Ahmedabad and scored a quick 37 runs.
Ishan Kishan has been recalled after leading Jharkhand to success in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored a century in the final against Haryana, impressing selectors with his performance.
The squad features a balanced mix of batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the side, with Axar Patel named vice-captain. Other key batsmen include Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead Indiaโs pace attack alongside left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh. Varun Chakaravarthy will spearhead the spin department, supported by left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Hardik Pandya is expected to play a key role as the teamโs premier seam-bowling all-rounder.
Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will manage wicketkeeping duties, while Washington Sundar adds depth as an all-rounder. The squad reflects a blend of experience and youth, aimed at defending Indiaโs title successfully in the T20 World Cup.
With the tournament approaching, India will focus on fine-tuning combinations and strategies. The squad is expected to be battle-ready after the home T20 series against New Zealand, giving players valuable match practice before the T20 World Cup.
Fans will watch closely as India seeks to maintain its strong record in the T20 World Cup, relying on its star players and emerging talent to achieve success.
