‘Truth Matters’: Indian Presenter Breaks Silence on Being ‘Dropped’ from BPL

'Truth Matters' Indian Presenter Breaks Silence on Being 'Dropped' from BPL

Sporting relations between India and Bangladesh have sharply deteriorated amid recent developments involving cricket boards and T20 tournaments. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) became a focal point of controversy this week.

Reports initially claimed that Indian presenter Ridhima Pathak had been removed from the BPL hosting panel. Pathak is a well-known figure in Indian sports broadcasting. However, she clarified that she voluntarily stepped away from the league due to the ongoing political climate.

In a public statement, Pathak emphasized her loyalty to her country. She wrote, โ€œI made a personal decision to opt out. For me, my nation comes firstโ€”always. Cricket deserves truth. Period.โ€ Pathak also thanked fans for their support and reiterated her commitment to integrity and the spirit of the game.

Tensions escalated further on January 3 when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly instructed Kolkata Knight Riders, an IPL franchise, to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Following this, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that its national team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026. The BCB cited โ€œoverall circumstancesโ€ in India as the reason for its decision.

The Bangladesh government also banned nationwide telecasts of the IPL. Officials demanded that Bangladeshโ€™s matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 be shifted from India to Sri Lanka. These moves added pressure on players, officials, and broadcasters associated with the sport.

Amid the controversy, the clarification from Indian presenter Ridhima Pathak helped address misinformation. She stressed that her decision was personal and not a reflection of professional disputes. Pathakโ€™s statement also highlighted the importance of separating sport from political tensions, ensuring that cricketโ€™s integrity is maintained.

The ongoing diplomatic and sporting disagreements between India and Bangladesh continue to impact cricket tournaments, players, and broadcasting schedules. Indian presenter Ridhima Pathakโ€™s response underscores the challenges faced by professionals navigating the intersection of politics and sport.
