US Confirms Iranian Footballers Granted Visas for World Cup

Iranโ€™s national football team has received visas to enter the United States for the upcoming World Cup, despite ongoing regional tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

The confirmation came from the US ambassador to Turkey, who praised embassy staff for processing the travel documents. A separate statement from a US administration official also confirmed that the visas had been issued.

The decision allows Iran to participate in the World Cup, one of the world’s biggest sporting events. The tournament will take place across North America, with several matches scheduled in the United States.

According to US officials, the visa approvals demonstrate a commitment to supporting international sporting events. They said sports can bring people together despite political differences and ongoing conflicts.

At the same time, US authorities stressed that security measures remain in place. Officials said the visa process would not be misused for purposes unrelated to the tournament.

Iranโ€™s squad is expected to leave Turkey and travel to Spain before heading to Mexico. The team is scheduled to arrive at its base camp in Mexico on Sunday.

Originally, Iran planned to stay in the United States during the competition. However, the team later moved its training base to Mexico due to tensions linked to the conflict that began earlier this year.

Although based in Mexico, Iran will play all three of its group-stage matches in the United States. This arrangement allows the team to participate in the World Cup while reducing its time spent inside the country.

Iran will begin its World Cup journey against New Zealand on June 16 in Los Angeles. The match is expected to attract significant attention from football fans around the world.

The team will then face Belgium in another match in Los Angeles. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Egypt in Seattle.

The latest visa approvals remove uncertainty surrounding Iranโ€™s participation in the World Cup. The decision ensures that the national team can compete alongside other countries in the prestigious tournament.
