In a stunning moment for international cricket, Austria’s Karanbir Singh has made history by breaking Mohammad Rizwan’s long-standing record. The Karanbir Singh T20I world record marks a major milestone, as he surpassed Rizwan’s tally for the most T20I runs in a single calendar year.
The 30-year-old Austrian batter has been in sensational form throughout 2025. Heading into Austria’s tour of Romania, he needed only 87 runs to break Rizwan’s 2021 record of 1,326 runs. Karanbir achieved the feat in style — scoring 57 off 27 balls in the first match and a blistering 90 off 46 balls in the second of a double-header on October 18.
By the end of the tour, he had accumulated a remarkable 1,488 runs in 2025, setting a new Karanbir Singh T20I world record. His season includes two centuries and thirteen fifties across 32 innings, along with an explosive strike rate of 174.85. He also smashed 122 sixes — another world record in the format.
With this achievement, Karanbir Singh now joins the elite company of modern T20 greats such as Mohammad Rizwan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Babar Azam.
While Rizwan’s 2021 run-fest remains one of the finest performances in T20I history — achieved against top-ranked international teams — Karanbir’s success highlights the rapid progress of associate nations. His record showcases how cricketing talent is thriving well beyond traditional powerhouses.
Analysts believe that the Karanbir Singh T20I world record signifies a broader change in global cricket, where emerging teams like Austria are becoming serious contenders. It’s a reminder that the spirit of the game is expanding, and excellence can emerge from any corner of the cricketing world.
