Manchester United have officially named Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager will join the club from Sporting Lisbon, with his tenure set to begin on November 11, under a contract lasting until June 2027.
Amorim’s arrival follows the dismissal of Erik ten Hag after a poor start to the season, despite Ten Hag previously securing the FA Cup and League Cup titles. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took charge as interim manager, will continue to oversee United’s next three games before Amorim’s official start, including an upcoming Premier League clash against Chelsea.

Sporting confirmed United’s willingness to meet Amorim’s €10 million release clause, marking a significant investment by the club in one of Europe’s most highly regarded young managers. Since joining Sporting in 2020, Amorim has led the club to two Portuguese titles and was previously linked to managerial roles at Liverpool and West Ham.
Amorim’s first match in charge of United is expected to be an away fixture against Ipswich on November 24. United fans and the club’s leadership are hopeful his tactical expertise and fresh approach will help restore success and consistency to Old Trafford, where the club hasn’t secured a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
