Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), has pledged to restore Pakistan’s national hockey glory after taking charge as the ad-hoc president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).
In a statement issued on Friday, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani assured stakeholders of a comprehensive plan to stabilise the federation, rebuild trust, and improve team management. He emphasised the need to revive and strengthen the country’s national game at all levels.
“As the newly appointed ad-hoc President of PHF, I assure stakeholders of our commitment to revive and strengthen hockey in Pakistan,” Wani said. He added that immediate steps are being taken to address pressing organisational and administrative challenges.
The ad-hoc president outlined a short-term focus on stabilising PHF affairs, while a medium-term roadmap would include strategic planning, improved coaching structures, and enhanced training programs. Institutional coordination among relevant bodies would also be prioritised.
Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani stressed better governance and efficient resource management, noting plans to partner with the private sector to provide stronger support for players and the national team setup. He said players should concentrate on training and matches, while the administration handles all logistical and managerial responsibilities.
Highlighting institutional support, Wani stated that all concerned organisations are aligned with efforts to restore Pakistan’s hockey prestige. He also confirmed that elections for new PHF leadership would be conducted to ensure a democratic transition.
In a key decision, the ad-hoc president lifted the ban on national team captain Ammad Butt, saying all decisions under his tenure will follow transparency and fairness. He thanked the Prime Minister for placing trust in him and called on all stakeholders to work collectively for the betterment of the sport.
Earlier, PHF President Tariq Bugti resigned amid allegations of mismanagement during the national team’s recent Australia tour. The move followed complaints from team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt about administrative failures.
With Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani at the helm, Pakistan’s hockey community hopes for renewed stability, stronger governance, and the return of international success in the national game.
