Naseem Shah Fined for ICC Code of Conduct Breach in ILT20 Final

DUBAI: Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the International League T20 (ILT20) final.

The 22-year-old, representing Desert Vipers, was penalized for a Level 1 offense. He was fined 10 percent of his match fee for violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This article relates to using language, gestures, or actions that may provoke or insult a batter after dismissal.

The incident took place during the Season 4 ILT20 final against MI Emirates at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It occurred in the 11th over when MI Emirates captain Kieron Pollard defended a delivery from Naseem Shah. The ball returned directly to the bowler, who picked it up and looked at Pollard with a smile.

This prompted a verbal exchange between the two players. Pollard appeared angry, and Naseem Shah responded in kind. Both moved close to each other, requiring intervention from umpires and Desert Vipers teammates. The situation was eventually defused, but both players remained visibly upset.

Later in the match, Naseem Shah dismissed Pollard on the first ball of the 16th over, settling the score between them. Despite the controversy, Desert Vipers went on to win the final by 46 runs, claiming their first ILT20 title.

Officials stated that the fine was issued to reinforce the importance of respecting opponents on the field. The ICC noted that Level 1 breaches are minor but still require penalties to maintain the spirit of the game.

Fans and cricket analysts reacted to the incident, emphasizing that emotions can run high in finals. Many praised Naseem Shah for his performance while reminding players to maintain professionalism during intense moments.

This marks another learning moment for Naseem Shah, who has already shown great talent at a young age. Observers believe such experiences can help him grow as both a player and a professional ambassador for Pakistan cricket.
