Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Nauman Ali has etched his name in history by breaking a 37-year-old record previously held by legendary spinner Abdul Qadir. The remarkable feat came during the first Test against South Africa at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where Nauman’s consistent performance with the ball helped Pakistan secure a 1–0 series lead.
According to official statistics, Nauman Ali now holds the record for the most wickets taken by a Pakistani bowler in five consecutive Test matches. He claimed an impressive 46 wickets between his 16th and 20th Tests, surpassing Abdul Qadir’s record of 44 wickets achieved between his 48th and 52nd Tests during the 1987–88 season.
In the ongoing Lahore Test, Nauman once again demonstrated his mastery of spin bowling. He took 10 wickets in the match — six in the first innings and four in the second — playing a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory over South Africa. His outstanding form over the past year has made him the most successful spinner in the world within the last 12 months.
Earlier this year, Nauman Ali took 6 and 10 wickets in two Test matches against the West Indies. Against England, he was equally impressive, claiming 11 wickets in Multan and 9 in Rawalpindi. These performances have solidified his reputation as one of Pakistan’s most dependable spinners in modern cricket.
At 39, Nauman continues to rewrite records. On the third day of the Lahore Test, he also surpassed Iqbal Qasim’s 37-year-old record for the most five-wicket hauls by a Pakistani left-arm spinner. With nine five-wicket hauls to his name, Nauman now holds the national record for the most five-wicket innings by a left-arm spinner.
