Onana Agrees to Join Trabzonspor on Loan from Manchester United

Onana

Andre Onana is set to leave Manchester United and join Turkish club Trabzonspor on a season-long loan. The goalkeeper struggled for game time at Old Trafford after new signings pushed him down the pecking order.

Onana only featured once this season in the Carabao Cup. In that match, he was partly blamed for both goals in a draw before United were knocked out on penalties. The arrival of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens, along with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton, meant fewer opportunities for the Cameroon international.

The loan deal gives him a chance to play regular football again. Reports suggest the move also comes with attractive financial terms, including bonuses and performance-based payments. These conditions may even raise his salary compared to what he currently earns at Manchester United.

For United, the decision makes sense. The club has enough depth in goalkeeping and can manage during Onana’s likely call-up for the Africa Cup of Nations. For the player, the move offers a fresh start in a less pressured environment.

The transfer is close to completion, with only final approval from Onana expected. Trabzonspor will not have the option to buy him permanently, meaning he is set to return to Manchester United next season.

This move could help Onana rebuild his confidence and form, giving him another chance to prove his quality at the top level.
