RAWALPINDI – Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by six runs in an exciting opening ODI match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The game kept fans on edge until the final over, as the hosts held their nerve to seal the win.
Batting first after being invited by Sri Lanka, Pakistan posted a strong total of 299 for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs. Salman Agha led the charge with a brilliant unbeaten century, scoring 105 runs off 112 balls. Hussain Talat contributed 62 runs, while Fakhar Zaman added 32 and captain Babar Azam made 29. Mohammad Nawaz remained not out on 36, helping Pakistan reach a competitive total.
For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 51 runs. Asitha Fernando and Maheesh Theekshana claimed one wicket each.
In response, Sri Lanka put up a strong fight but fell just short, finishing at 293 for nine in their 50 overs. Wanindu Hasaranga continued his fine performance with the bat, scoring 59 runs. Sadeera Samarawickrama added 39, Kamal Mishara 38, and captain Charith Asalanka contributed 32. Despite their efforts, the team could not chase down the target.
From the bowling side, Haris Rauf starred for Pakistan with an impressive four-wicket haul. Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah grabbed two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz took one.

With this narrow victory, Pakistan took a 1-0 lead in the ODI series.
