Pakistan have set South Africa a target of 277 runs to win the opening Test after a dramatic batting collapse on Day 3 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Spinner Senuran Muthusamy played a key role, taking 11 wickets in the match to give South Africa a strong chance of victory.
After gaining a 109-run lead in the first innings, Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled in their second innings and were bowled out for just 167 runs. Captain Babar Azam scored 42, Abdullah Shafique made 41, and Saud Shakeel added 38, but none could convert their starts into big scores.
Imam-ul-Haq and Shaheen Afridi were dismissed without scoring, while Mohammad Rizwan contributed 14 before falling to Simon Harmer. Pakistan lost their last six wickets for only 17 runs, turning their advantage into a major setback.
Left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy dominated the match, claiming 6 wickets in the first innings and 5 in the second, finishing with a total of 11 wickets. His consistent accuracy and control made life difficult for Pakistan’s middle and lower order. Simon Harmer also impressed, picking up 4 wickets, while Kagiso Rabada dismissed Babar Azam to intensify the pressure.
Earlier in the game, Pakistan had taken a strong position after scoring 378 runs in the first innings. Imam-ul-Haq (93), Shan Masood (76), Mohammad Rizwan (75), and Agha Salman (93) were the key contributors. South Africa replied with 269 runs, thanks to Noman Ali’s six-wicket haul that gave Pakistan a valuable lead.

Now, South Africa need 277 runs to win the Lahore Test. With the pitch favoring spin, Pakistan’s bowlers, especially Noman Ali and Sajid Khan, will be crucial in defending the total. However, South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi, who scored a century in the first innings, and Ryan Rickelton, with 71 runs, will aim to guide their side to a memorable chase.
