DUBAI β The stage is set for another high-voltage battle in the Asia Cup 2025, as Pakistan lock horns with Bangladesh in a crucial Super Four encounter. A win for the Green Shirts will seal their spot in Sundayβs final against arch-rival India.
Pakistanβs batting form remains a concern. Fakhar Zaman, Saeem Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Haris failed to shine against Sri Lanka, but Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz guided the team to a tense four-wicket win. Opener Sahibzada Farhan has been the standout performer, scoring 156 runs so far, while Pakistanβs bowling, led by Shaheen Afridi, has been highly effective.
Captain Salman Ali Agha praised Shaheen Afridi as a βgenuine match-winnerβ and hinted that bowling first could prove decisive on Dubaiβs slow pitch. Despite being favorites, Pakistan suffered defeat against Bangladesh earlier in the tournament, showing that the Tigers cannot be underestimated.
Bangladesh face a challenge without injured captain Liton Das. Their attack relies on Mustafizur Rahman and Rashid Hussain, while Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy, and Jaker Ali carry the batting responsibility.
Pakistanβs batting struggles continue. Saeem Ayub has scored just 23 runs in five games, including three ducks, while Mohammad Haris has managed only one half-century.
Salman Ali Agha has just 45 runs in the tournament, and Hasan Nawaz has also failed to make an impact. To beat Bangladesh, the entire batting order must perform.
In bowling, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Saeem Ayub lead with six wickets each, supported by match-turning spells from Hussain Talat and Abrar Ahmed. Captain Agha also highlighted the role of fielding coach Shane McDermott, calling him the squadβs βrock star.β
With both teams eyeing the Asia Cup 2025 final, the toss could be critical. On slow Dubai pitches, chasing has often proved the winning formula.
