Pakistan will begin its two-match Test series against Bangladesh with the first Test commencing on Friday, 8 May, in Dhaka. The opening match will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium and will continue until 12 May.
The second match of the series will take place in Sylhet from 16 to 20 May. Both Tests are part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
The Pakistan team enters the series with confidence after previous strong performances against Bangladesh. During their last tour in 2021, Pakistan won the series 2-0.
Historically, Pakistan have maintained dominance in Test cricket against Bangladesh. The two teams have played 15 Tests so far. Pakistan won 12 matches, while Bangladesh secured two victories. One match ended in a draw.
The first Test commencing in Dhaka is expected to be a competitive contest. Bangladesh are known for performing strongly in home conditions, especially on spin-friendly pitches.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood addressed the media before the series. He said the team is fully focused on the challenge ahead. He also praised Bangladesh for being a balanced and competitive side.
Masood said Pakistan selected a squad capable of adapting to different playing conditions. He added that players have experience in both seam-friendly and spin-friendly environments.
The captain also expressed confidence in the bowling attack. He emphasized that taking 20 wickets remains the key to success in Test cricket.
According to Masood, the team management understands the players well. He said this familiarity helps maintain a positive atmosphere inside the dressing room.
The first Test commencing this week also carries importance in the World Test Championship standings. Pakistan are currently fifth on the points table after their previous home series against South Africa.
Bangladesh are placed eighth in the standings after losing their recent Test series against Sri Lanka.
Pakistanโs 16-member squad includes experienced players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imam-ul-Haq, and Hasan Ali. Young talents have also been included to strengthen the side.
The management team features former cricketers Sarfaraz Ahmed, Asad Shafiq, and Umar Gul in coaching roles.
