Tragic Loss Pakistan Olympian Athlete Abdul Rashid Dies Suddenly of Heart Attack

KHANEWAL โ€“ Abdul Rashid, a celebrated Olympian athlete, passed away following a heart attack in Mian Channu city, Punjab. His family confirmed the sad news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

Rashidโ€™s coaches and fellow athletes also mourned his death. The late Olympian athlete was a key member of Pakistanโ€™s gold medal-winning team at the 2004 South Asian Federation (SAF) Games. He also represented Pakistan at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was recognized as a national champion in the 110-meter hurdles.

Abdul Rashidโ€™s dedication and achievements in athletics earned him respect across the sports community. His passing is considered a significant loss for Pakistani athletics, as he had inspired many young athletes through his performance and discipline.

A day prior, another former Olympian, Farooq Ahmad Khan, passed away. He was part of Pakistanโ€™s gold medal-winning hockey team at the 1968 Mexico Olympics. Farooq was laid to rest in a local cemetery, leaving behind memories of his brief but impactful sports career.

Although Farooqโ€™s international hockey career lasted only two years, he was known for his skill as a right-out and his strength in long-distance running. While he was part of the Mexico Olympics squad, he did not play any matches, serving as an alternate for fellow player Khalid Mahmood. At the national level, Farooq represented Lahore Division and Railways in hockey.

The passing of Abdul Rashid, the Olympian athlete, and Farooq Ahmad Khan highlights a moment of reflection for Pakistanโ€™s sports fraternity. Both athletes contributed to the nationโ€™s pride in international competitions and inspired generations of players.
