The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has officially announced that Pakistan withdraws from Junior Hockey World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India next month. The decision was made in response to ongoing political tensions between the two neighboring countries.
PHF Secretary Rana Mujahid confirmed on Thursday that the federation had informed the International Hockey Federation (IHF) about Pakistanβs decision. He stated that the current situation made it inappropriate for the national team to travel to India and take part in the global event.
βIt is by no means appropriate to travel to India and play under the current situation,β Mujahid said while addressing the media.
The development comes amid strained relations between Pakistan and India following the recent terrorist attack on tourists in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) Pahalgam area.
Rana Mujahid also referred to the recent Asia Cup 2025 controversy, where he condemned the incident involving players refusing to shake hands with the Pakistan cricket team. He also criticized the act of not receiving the trophy from President ACC and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, calling the behavior βregrettable and condemnable.β
In light of these incidents, the PHF concluded that participating in the upcoming tournament would not be suitable. The federation stressed that Pakistanβs dignity and national pride take precedence over participation.
The Pakistan withdraws from Junior Hockey World Cup decision means Pakistan will miss out on competing among 23 international teams. The Junior Hockey World Cup is scheduled to run from November 28 to December 10 in Chennai and Madurai. The pool stage will be played over five days, followed by crossover matches and the final on December 10.
The PHFβs move has drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting the decision due to political circumstances, while others regret the missed opportunity for young players.
