The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially ended its association with Muhammad Wasim, concluding his tenure as head coach of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team. The decision follows a disappointing performance at the Women’s World Cup 2025, where Pakistan failed to secure a single victory.
The PCB confirmed the development on Monday through an official statement, adding that the process to appoint a new head coach is already underway. “The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the completion of Muhammad Wasim’s tenure as Head Coach of the Pakistan National Women’s Cricket Team,” the press release said.
It further stated, “The process to appoint a new head coach is currently underway, and the announcement regarding his successor will be made in due course.”
Muhammad Wasim’s departure comes after Pakistan finished at the bottom of the points table in the World Cup 2025. The team lost four out of seven matches, while the remaining three were abandoned due to rain. The poor results led to growing speculation about possible changes in the team’s coaching structure.
Sources within the PCB had earlier hinted at a review of the women’s cricket setup to improve performance in upcoming international assignments. The board’s latest move appears to be part of that restructuring effort.
In its statement, the PCB emphasized its continued support for women’s cricket in Pakistan. “The PCB remains committed to strengthening women’s cricket in Pakistan and ensuring the team receives the best possible support to achieve continued success on the international stage,” it added.
Muhammad Wasim was appointed as the women’s team head coach in June 2024, ahead of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. His term saw mixed results, but the World Cup exit ultimately led to his departure. The new head coach is expected to be announced soon as the PCB focuses on rebuilding for future tournaments.
