PCB To Remove Women’s Head Coach Mohammad Wasim After World Cup Exit

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to remove Women’s head coach Mohammad Wasim following the team’s disappointing performance in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, according to sources.

Insiders confirmed on Sunday that the national women’s team failed to win a single match during the tournament, despite Wasim having full control over team selection and strategy. The decision to remove him as Women’s head coach comes as part of the PCB’s wider plan to overhaul women’s cricket in the country.

Pakistan’s campaign ended without a victory, with three of their seven games abandoned due to rain. The team’s batting lineup struggled throughout the event, drawing criticism from former players and analysts alike.

Sources said that Wasim was given complete authority to form the squad and set the playing tactics but could not deliver the expected results. “He had full independence, yet the outcomes were disappointing,” one PCB official said.

The PCB is now preparing to introduce a new coaching structure aimed at improving the overall standard of the women’s team. Officials indicated that the search for a new Women’s head coach is already underway, with several local and international candidates being considered.

As part of its future strategy, the board also plans to collaborate more closely with other cricket boards to provide Pakistani women players with more international exposure and opportunities in foreign leagues.

Earlier in the tournament, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat against South Africa, losing by 150 runs in a rain-affected match. The loss sealed their early exit from the competition.

The Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-finals and final are scheduled to be played in India, with Sri Lanka co-hosting some matches involving Pakistan at neutral venues.
