PCB Announces Base Price For Two New PSL Franchises

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a base price of Rs1.30 billion per year for each of the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises. This decision comes as the league expands from six to eight teams.

Sources told Dawn that the base price aligns with a near threefold increase in valuations for existing franchises. However, the PCB has not yet released an official statement confirming the updated figures.

Unlike the inaugural PSL season in 2016, when franchise prices were quoted in US dollars, all league-related financial dealings will now be conducted in Pakistani rupees. The change aims to simplify transactions for local and international investors.

To attract potential investors for the two new teams and the Multan Sultans, the PCB recently held a roadshow in London. Six citiesโ€”Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgitโ€”have been shortlisted as potential homes for the new franchises. The board will finalize two cities ahead of the auction.

The PCB has also announced a New York City roadshow scheduled for Saturday. This global outreach initiative is designed to engage international investors and generate interest in the league ahead of the franchise auction on January 6 next year.

Six Pakistani national team players, including T20I captain Salman Ali Agha, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, and Saud Shakeel, are expected to attend the US event. They will promote the PSLโ€™s commercial potential and international appeal.

The auction, backed by the established base price, marks a major step in the PSLโ€™s growth strategy. With strong investor interest and expanding global outreach, the league aims to enhance its commercial value and strengthen Pakistan cricketโ€™s international profile.
