Mauricio Pochettino has once again ruled out ever coaching Barcelona. The manager described Espanyol as a more fitting match.
Pochettino said he sees Espanyol as more Catalan than Barcelona. He rejected Barcelona’s slogan of being “more than a club,” calling it misleading. He also said indoctrinating children with ideas is wrong. His loyalty to Espanyol remains strong.
Back in 2017, the manager made headlines when he stated he would rather work on his farm than manage Barcelona. He also explained that his emotional ties to Espanyol make the idea impossible. These remarks came during his successful time at Tottenham.
Over the years, Pochettino softened his stance. He admitted his earlier statements were exaggerated. He clarified that he did not mean to disrespect Barcelona. He also admitted his words made fans hesitant. At the same time, he added that life can change, and one should never rule out possibilities completely.
Even with this softer tone, Pochettino still rejects the idea of managing Barcelona. He stressed that taking the role would be a betrayal to himself. According to him, the emotional connection with Espanyol is unbreakable.
