The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set for its biggest expansion yet, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the addition of two new teams and two more venues for the upcoming 11th edition.
In an interview on a private TV podcast, PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer revealed that the board plans to host matches across six venues. βInshaAllah, HBL PSL 11 will be played at six different venues,β he said, emphasizing the PCBβs efforts to grow the leagueβs reach and popularity.
According to Naseer, the Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar (formerly known as Arbab Niaz Stadium) is nearing completion and will likely be ready for PSL 11. However, he added that a long-term lease agreement must be finalized before major investments can proceed.
He also confirmed that Faisalabad will be one of the new host cities for PSL matches, as the venue has already been approved for international games. This expansion aims to bring the excitement of the PSL to more fans across Pakistan.
Discussing the addition of new franchises, Salman Naseer stated that the PCB will begin the tender process for the sale of teams in November. βThere is significant interest in acquiring new teams, and we expect tough competition,β he said.
The PSL began in 2016 with five teams, expanding to six after the inclusion of Multan Sultans in 2018. With two new franchises joining for PSL 11, the league will feature eight teams for the first time in its history.
Meanwhile, controversy surrounds the league after the PCB issued a legal notice to Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen over his criticism of the boardβs management. Tareen responded by tearing up the notice in a video message, calling his comments βconstructive criticismβ meant to improve the PSL brand.
