PSL Gears Up for Auction as Two New Franchises Prepare to Join

LAHORE – The Pakistan Super League (PSL) announced that the auction for two new franchise teams will be held on January 6, 2026. This move marks a major step in the PSL’s expansion and reflects its commitment to promoting cricket across Pakistan.

The addition of two new franchises will create fresh opportunities in sporting competition, commercial growth, and fan engagement. The PSL has steadily grown into one of the premier T20 leagues globally, attracting top talent and increasing international viewership.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL management revealed that the shortlisted cities for potential franchise allocation include Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit. Successful bidders at the auction will have the right to select their preferred city and team name. Only technically qualified bidders will be invited to participate in the auction.

The PSL has consistently attracted strong sponsorships, media rights deals, and fan attention, and the addition of two new teams is expected to further strengthen its commercial and sporting impact.

PCB officials said they look forward to welcoming new stakeholders to the HBL PSL ecosystem, which continues to support domestic cricket development and global interest in Pakistan’s cricketing talent.

A day before the announcement, the PCB clarified misinformation circulating in the media regarding the finalisation of the cities for the new PSL franchises. Officials emphasized that no final decision on the cities had been made yet, and all shortlisted cities remain under consideration.

With the upcoming auction, the PSL continues its strategy to expand the league’s reach, giving fans across Pakistan new teams to support and enhancing the league’s overall profile. The PCB expressed optimism that the new franchises will further elevate the PSL, providing more exciting cricket and opportunities for emerging players.
