Pakistan have reportedly made a principle decision to change their T20I captain for the upcoming Sri Lanka series. Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan is expected to replace Salman Ali Agha as captain.

The three-match T20I series will be played at home. Pakistan are expected to select a relatively young squad for the contest.

However, several experienced players could also return to strengthen the team.

Senior Players Likely to Return

According to reports, former Pakistan captain Babar Azam is likely to return to the T20I squad.

Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman are also expected to make their comebacks.

Meanwhile, several players from the previous setup could lose their places. Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Haider Ali and Mohammad Wasim Jnr are unlikely to retain their spots.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is also not expected to receive an opportunity for the upcoming series.

An official squad announcement will provide confirmation of the final selections.

Sahibzada Farhan Could Get Another Leadership Opportunity

The expected appointment would give Sahibzada Farhan another major leadership role for Pakistan.

Farhan recently captained Pakistan’s young team at the Asian Games 2026.

Pakistan reached the Asian Games final for the first time under his leadership. The team eventually secured the silver medal.

Pakistan faced arch-rivals India in the final and were given a challenging 212-run target.

The Green Shirts responded with 192 for six but fell 19 runs short.

Hasan Nawaz produced an impressive batting performance during the chase. He scored 96 runs but could not take Pakistan over the line.

The Asian Games campaign strengthened Farhan’s leadership credentials ahead of the Sri Lanka series.

Pakistan Hold Strong T20I Record Against Sri Lanka

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have played 31 T20 internationals against each other.

Pakistan have won 18 of those matches, while Sri Lanka have recorded 13 victories. The upcoming series will give both teams another opportunity to prepare for future international assignments.

For Sahibzada Farhan, the series could mark the beginning of a new chapter in his international career.

ODI Tri-Series to Follow T20Is

After the T20I series, England will join Pakistan and Sri Lanka for an ODI tri-series.

Matches will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

The tri-series will begin on October 18. Pakistan will face Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the opening match.
