Pakistanโs premier left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has successfully passed his fitness test ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Australia. The assessment also ensures his participation in the T20 World Cup.
The fitness test was conducted in Lahore two days ago. Sources confirmed that Afridi is now fully fit and ready to play. The evaluation comes after his groin injury sustained during the Big Bash League (BBL) 2026.
Afridi had been representing Brisbane Heat in the Australian tournament when he got injured while fielding. A video released by BBL showed him limping off the field. Following the injury, Zaman Khan was named as his replacement.
Due to the groin injury, Afridi missed Pakistanโs recent T20I series against Sri Lanka. His recovery and successful fitness test now allow him to return to the national squad for the Pakistan vs Australia T20I series.
Pakistan will play three T20Is against Australia on January 29, 31, and February 1 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. All matches are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM PKT, with the coin toss set for 5:30 PM PKT. Australiaโs squad is expected to arrive in Lahore on January 28.
The ICC T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will begin in February. Pakistanโs matches will take place in Sri Lanka, and Afridiโs fitness will be crucial for the teamโs chances in the tournament.
Coaches and team officials praised Afridiโs dedication during rehabilitation. His return after passing the fitness test is a significant boost for Pakistanโs bowling attack, giving confidence to both players and fans ahead of crucial T20 assignments.
With Afridi back in full health, Pakistan aims to strengthen its performance against Australia and build momentum for the T20 World Cup. Officials continue to monitor playersโ fitness levels to ensure peak readiness for international competitions.
