Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has praised Shan Masood’s appointment as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Consultant for International Cricket and Players’ Affairs. Afridi called it a “great choice” and appreciated the PCB for making what he described as “thoughtful and forward-looking” decisions for the future of Pakistan cricket.
The former all-rounder shared his reaction on X, congratulating Shan Masood on his new role. “Congratulations to Shan Masood on being appointed as the International Director of PCB, a great choice,” Shahid Afridi wrote.
In addition to supporting Masood’s appointment, Afridi suggested that wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed should be considered for a leadership role in domestic cricket. He said that only experienced cricketers truly understand the challenges faced by players and can help improve domestic structures. “Sarfaraz Ahmed would be an excellent fit to lead domestic cricket. These roles couldn’t be in better hands,” Shahid Afridi added.
Earlier in the day, the PCB confirmed Shan Masood’s new role as Consultant for International Cricket and Players’ Affairs. The position was introduced after the resignation of Usman Wahla, who had been serving as Director of International Cricket Operations. The responsibilities of this new designation include organizing international events, managing MOUs for tours, and coordinating ICC-related matters.
According to the PCB, the role also involves planning logistics, negotiating contracts, and handling budgets for domestic and international tournaments.
Shan Masood, who has represented Pakistan in 44 Test matches, 9 ODIs, and 19 T20Is since his debut in 2013, continues to serve as the national Test captain. It is not yet confirmed whether he will retain the captaincy while holding this new administrative role.
