Usman Shinwari Announces International Retirement at 31

Usman Shinwari

Pakistan left-arm pacer Usman Shinwari has officially retired from international cricket at the age of 31. His career spanned from 2013 to 2019, during which he represented the national team in all formats.

Shinwari played 17 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), 16 T20 Internationals, and one Test match. In ODIs, he claimed 34 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, both against Sri Lanka. In T20Is, he picked up 13 wickets, while his single Test appearance also came against Sri Lanka in December 2019.

His standout performances included match-winning figures of 5 for 34 in Sharjah in 2017 and 5 for 51 in Karachi in 2019. He was also part of Pakistan’s squad during the 2018 Asia Cup.

Recurring back injuries significantly affected his career. In 2021, Shinwari stepped away from Test cricket and was later dropped from the central contracts list. Despite these setbacks, he continued to feature in domestic cricket and played his last List A match in 2023.

Shinwari’s announcement closes the chapter on a career that showed flashes of brilliance but was limited by fitness struggles. Fans remember him as a passionate fast bowler who contributed important spells for Pakistan in white-ball cricket.
