South Africa has named a 15-member squad for the ICC Menโs T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India. Aiden Markram will captain the Proteas, leading a mix of experienced players and promising youngsters.
The squadโs pace attack features Kagiso Rabada, returning after missing the India tour due to injury. Anrich Nortje is also back after recovering from an injury during the T20Is against India. Other key bowlers include Lungi Ngidi, Kwena Maphaka, Corbin Bosch, and Marco Jansen.
The batting lineup is strong, led by Markram and Quinton de Kock. Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, David Miller, and Donovan Ferreira complete the top and middle order. Keshav Maharaj provides spin options, while Jason Smith, with five international caps, makes a return to the squad.
Among the notable omissions is Tristan Stubbs, who was left out of the 15-member team.
Patrick Moroney, chair of selectors, said, โWe have made some big calls, but this is our strongest squad. It combines experienced T20 stars with exciting young talent, giving South Africa every chance in India and Sri Lanka.โ
South Africa finished as runners-up in the 2024 T20 World Cup and will aim to go one better this year. They are placed in Group D alongside Afghanistan, New Zealand, Canada, and the UAE.
The T20 World Cup 2026 will begin on 7 February, with matches scheduled across India and Sri Lanka. Fans will look to South Africaโs balanced squad for strong performances in both batting and bowling.
