South Korea Regrets Being Mistakenly Announced As North Korea At Olympics 2024

South Korea has expressed regret after its athletes were mistakenly introduced as North Koreans during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony and has sought assurances from organizers to prevent a recurrence.

During the ceremony, the South Korean delegation was announced as the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” while passing on the Seine, and the same introduction was used for the North Korean delegation.

South Korea’s Vice Minister for Sports and Culture, Jang Mi-ran, who was present in Paris, requested a meeting with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach. The South Korean National Olympic Committee has raised the issue with the Games’ organizers and asked for confirmation that such an error will not happen again.

South Korea’s delegation comprises 143 athletes in 21 events, while North Korea has sent 16 athletes, marking their return to the Games since Rio 2016.
