UEFA has confirmed that the 2027 UCL final will take place at Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain. The stadium, home of Atlético Madrid, will host the match on 5 June 2027.
The venue has a seating capacity of around 70,000 and is considered one of the most modern stadiums in Europe. This will be the second time it hosts the UCL final, with the first being in 2019 when Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0.
Change from Milan’s San Siro
Originally, the 2027 UCL final was scheduled to be held at the San Siro in Milan. However, uncertainty over stadium renovations forced UEFA to look for another host. Construction work in Milan created doubts about whether the venue would be ready in time for the final.
As a result, UEFA reopened the bidding process. Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano and Baku’s Olympic Stadium submitted bids. After careful review, UEFA selected Madrid.
Why Madrid Was Chosen
UEFA officials highlighted the stadium’s strong infrastructure, capacity, and previous experience hosting major events. The city of Madrid also has the transport and accommodation network needed to welcome tens of thousands of fans.
Hosting the 2027 UCL final strengthens Madrid’s position as one of Europe’s top football capitals. The Spanish city has already hosted several Champions League finals, and the Metropolitano continues that tradition.
Wider Context
Alongside this announcement, UEFA also confirmed that the 2027 Women’s Champions League final will be played at Warsaw’s National Stadium in Poland. This reflects UEFA’s strategy of spreading major finals across different European countries.
Fans and clubs now have clarity on where the 2027 final will be played. The decision allows early planning for tickets, travel, and logistics.
The UCL final is the most watched club football match in the world. Having it in Madrid again ensures a major city with a deep football culture will host one of the biggest nights in sport.
