Virat Kohli Hits 53rd ODI Century, Inches Closer to Tendulkar’s Record

Virat Kohli Hits 53rd ODI Century, Inches Closer to Tendulkar’s Record

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli delivered another remarkable performance by scoring his 53rd ODI century during the second match against South Africa in Raipur. This achievement came just days after his brilliant ton in the series opener, highlighting his exceptional form at age 37. Kohli reached the milestone in only 90 balls, adding another record to his legendary career.

This latest hundred is Virat Kohli’s 84th international century, bringing him closer to Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing world record of 100 international tons. Tendulkar retired in 2013 with 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI hundreds, a mark many once believed would remain untouched. Kohli’s consistent performances, however, continue to narrow the gap.

The Raipur century also marked the 11th time the former Indian captain has scored back-to-back ODI hundreds. No other player in the history of the format has achieved this feat as many times. His remarkable consistency in 50-over cricket remains unmatched, and fans again praised his ability to deliver under pressure.

Following this knock, Virat Kohli moved even closer to reclaiming the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. He now trails Rohit Sharma by just 32 rating points. Kohli previously held the top position for over three years before Pakistan’s Babar Azam overtook him in April 2021. With his recent form, a return to the No.1 ranking appears within reach.

India also celebrated other positive ranking updates. Kuldeep Yadav moved up to sixth in the latest ODI bowling rankings after strong performances. In T20Is, changes were recorded in the all-rounders’ rankings following the completion of the recent tri-series in Pakistan.

Kohli’s century not only strengthened India’s position in the ODI series but also added another chapter to his growing legacy. As the cricket world watches closely, his chase of Tendulkar’s historic record continues to generate excitement and admiration globally.
