T20 World Cup Hetmyer, Powell Power West Indies to 255-Run Target Against Zimbabwe

T20 World Cup witnessed a high-scoring encounter as West Indies posted a huge total against Zimbabwe in the Super Eight stage. The match was played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

West Indies reached an impressive score of 254 for six in their 20 overs. Powerful batting performances from Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell helped the team dominate the contest.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza chose to bowl first after winning the toss. However, the decision did not work in his team’s favor during this T20 World Cup clash. West Indies batters quickly took control of the match.

Despite the strong total, West Indies had an early setback. Opener Brandon King was dismissed in the third over after scoring nine runs. At that stage, the team had just 17 runs on the board.

After the early wicket, Shimron Hetmyer joined captain Shai Hope at the crease. The pair built a quick partnership of 37 runs for the second wicket. Hope scored 14 runs from 12 deliveries before being dismissed by Brad Evans near the end of the powerplay.

Following Hope’s departure, Rovman Powell came in to bat at number four. Powell and Hetmyer then produced the most important partnership of the innings. The duo added 122 runs for the third wicket in just 51 balls.

Hetmyer played an outstanding innings and finished as the top scorer for West Indies. He smashed 85 runs from only 34 balls. His aggressive knock included seven sixes and seven fours.

Powell also played a crucial role in the T20 World Cup match. He scored a solid 59 runs from 35 deliveries. His innings included four sixes and four boundaries.

Zimbabwe finally broke the big partnership in the 15th over when Graeme Cremer dismissed Hetmyer. A few deliveries later, Blessing Muzarabani removed Powell to slow down the scoring.

However, West Indies continued to attack in the final overs. Romario Shepherd contributed 21 runs, while Sherfane Rutherford remained unbeaten on 31. Their late contributions helped the team reach a huge total.

For Zimbabwe, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani each took two wickets. Graeme Cremer and Brad Evans claimed one wicket each.
