Brisbane Heat have added fresh pace to their squad in the ongoing Big Bash League season by signing Pakistan fast bowler Zaman Khan. He has been named Shaheen Afridi’s replacement after the left-arm pacer was ruled out due to injury.
The 24-year-old right-arm bowler has received official clearance from the Big Bash League Technical Committee. He is expected to be available for selection immediately. Zaman could feature in Brisbane Heat’s upcoming match against Sydney Thunder at the Gabba on Saturday.
This match will be special for Zaman. He previously represented Sydney Thunder during BBL 13. Facing his former team adds extra interest to his return to the league. His signing as Shaheen Afridi’s replacement gives Brisbane Heat added depth at a key stage of the tournament.
Zaman Khan is known for his unique sling-style bowling action. He is especially effective during the final overs. In his earlier BBL stint, he played four matches for Sydney Thunder. During that time, he picked up eight wickets. His bowling average stood at an impressive 16.38.
The Pakistani pacer made his international debut in 2023. Since then, he has played 10 T20 Internationals and one One-Day International for Pakistan. Across formats, he has taken seven wickets and gained valuable experience at the top level.
Zaman arrives in Australia in strong form. He recently featured in the Abu Dhabi T10 league. In his opening match, he claimed a hat-trick and made an instant impact. His performance there highlighted his confidence and sharp execution.
He also brings experience from several global leagues. Zaman has played in the Pakistan Super League for Lahore Qalandars. There, he played under Shaheen Afridi. He has also represented Manchester Originals in England’s The Hundred competition. These stints have helped him develop as a versatile T20 bowler.
Brisbane Heat head coach Johan Botha welcomed the signing warmly. He said Zaman adds a cutting edge to the bowling attack. Botha praised his ability to take early wickets and control pressure overs. He also noted Zaman’s variations and pace.
As Shaheen Afridi’s replacement, Zaman Khan is expected to play a key role. Brisbane Heat will hope his skills help them push strongly in the latter stages of the BBL season.
