T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan's Super 8 Qualification Scenarios

Pakistan’s position in the T20 World Cup 2024 is precarious after consecutive defeats. Their advancement to the Super Eight stage depends not only on winning their next two matches but also on the results of other teams’ games. This reliance on external outcomes is a common criticism of Pakistan in ICC tournaments.

In Group A, Pakistan competes against India, the US, Canada, and Ireland. With zero points from their two matches against the US and India, Pakistan faces a challenging path forward. India and the US currently top the group with four points each.

To advance, Pakistan must win their upcoming matches against Ireland and Canada and hope the US loses its remaining games against India and Ireland. Even with two wins, Pakistan needs a superior net run rate compared to the US to secure a Super Eight spot.

Pakistan’s losses were closely contested, with one match decided in a Super Over and the other a narrow six-run defeat to India. Despite a strong bowling performance that restricted India to 119 runs, Pakistan fell short in their chase, with Jasprit Bumrah’s 3-14 in four overs proving crucial for India.

Against the US, Pakistan faced another tight contest, ultimately losing in the Super Over by five runs. Mohammad Amir’s bowling limited the US to 18-1 in their Super Over, but Pakistan managed only 13-1 in response.

These losses have been disappointing for Pakistani fans who had high hopes for their team’s success in the tournament.
