Bangladesh Secures A 25-run Win Against Netherlands In The T20 World Cup

Bangladesh achieved a 25-run victory over the Netherlands in their third T20 World Cup 2024 match on Thursday, marking their second win and improving their chances of advancing in the T20 World Cup.

Chasing a target of 160, the Netherlands faltered early, losing openers Michael Levitt (18 off 16) and Max O’Dowd (12 off 16), reducing them to 32-2 in 5.4 overs. Despite a promising 37-run stand between Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht, wickets continued to fall regularly. Singh’s brisk 26 off 16 balls and Engelbrecht’s solid 33 off 22 offered resistance, but the Netherlands ended at 134-8 in 20 overs.

Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain shone with the ball, taking three key wickets, while Taskin Ahmed claimed two. Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudullah each secured one wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings had a shaky start with the early dismissals of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das. However, a stabilizing 48-run partnership between Tanzid Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan turned the momentum. Tanzid’s quickfire 35 off 26 balls and Shakib’s top-score of 64 off 46 balls built a strong foundation. Contributions from Mahmudullah (25 off 21) and a quick cameo from Jaker Ali (14 off 7) lifted Bangladesh to a competitive 159-5.

For the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren each took two wickets, while Tim Pringle claimed one.

With this win, Bangladesh now has two victories, enhancing their chances of advancing to the Super 8 stage.
