A Chinese man, identified as Liu, fell victim to an AI-generated romance scam, losing nearly £22,000 after being manipulated into believing he was in a relationship with a woman named Ms Jiao. The scammers used AI technology to create realistic photos, videos, and messages, making the deception appear genuine.
Liu was tricked into sending 200,000 yuan under the pretense of covering medical expenses and business costs. Authorities later discovered that Ms Jiao never existed and was entirely AI-generated, with fraudsters fabricating medical reports to further the scheme.
