ChatGPT

Thousands of users were left frustrated as ChatGPT experienced a major global outage, disrupting access across web and mobile platforms.

According to Downdetector, over 1,000 outage reports emerged in the UK and nearly 500 in the US. The issue, which began around 12:10pm IST, triggered error messages and halted access to features like GPT-4o, DALL·E, file uploads, voice mode, and more.

OpenAI confirmed the partial outage on its status page, stating that elevated error rates and latency were affecting ChatGPT and its associated tools. The cause remains unknown.

Users from India, Japan, and other regions took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their concerns and share memes, with some humorously comparing GPT-4o to a “digital best friend.”

With over 400 million weekly users, the disruption underscores society’s increasing reliance on AI-powered platforms.
