Generative AI Coming to iPhone 16 in 2024, Following Samsung's Lead

Apple is reportedly taking a deliberate approach to developing iOS 18, with the upcoming iPhone 16 generation expected to feature exclusive generative AI features as its primary selling points.

While specific details about the AI functionality remain undisclosed, speculation suggests capabilities similar to those seen in Google and Samsung, including text-to-image generation, document summarization, and content translation. There are also rumors about Apple revamping Siri using its proprietary LLM model.

The iPhone 16 series is anticipated to lack significant hardware changes, and Apple aims to emphasize the new AI features as the main selling points for these devices. All four models in the iPhone 16 series are expected to debut with the Apple A18 chip, which, like its competitors’ chips (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300), will support on-device generative AI processes. The A18 is likely to feature enhanced gaming hardware, aligning with the A17 Pro’s focus on running modern AAA games.

Rumors suggest that the Pro variants may include a new Capture Button located on the right side near the power button, similar to the dedicated camera button on Sony Xperia phones. Leaks also hint at a reduction in the size of the Dynamic Island and the addition of a 5x optical zoom camera on the iPhone 16 Pro model. While there are conflicting reports about the possible discontinuation of Dynamic Island in favor of a standard punch-hole cutout, major feature changes soon after introduction are considered unlikely for Apple.
