Instagram has introduced special teen accounts in Pakistan to provide a safer experience for younger users. The new accounts come with strict privacy restrictions and content controls designed to protect teens from harmful material and unwanted interactions.
According to Instagram, users under 18 will automatically be placed under more secure privacy settings. These include limiting who can message teenage users and restricting comments from unknown people. Sensitive content will also be reduced on their feeds and Explore pages.
Instagram says the move is aimed at creating a safer online environment for Pakistani youth, while still allowing them to connect with friends, discover interests, and share content. The platform also plans to work with local authorities and digital safety organizations to ensure continuous improvements.
Experts believe these restrictions can help reduce cyberbullying, harassment, and exposure to inappropriate content. However, some users have expressed concerns about censorship and limitations on what teens can view or post.
The new policy has already begun rolling out across Pakistan and is expected to apply to all accounts registered by users aged 13–17.
