Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has released Llama 2, an artificial intelligence (AI) system that competes with ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.
Microsoft collaborated with Meta to launch the next generation of open source big language models. One aspect that distinguishes the Llama 2 is that it will be freely available for study and commercial use.

“We’re opening access to Llama 2 with the support of a broad set of companies and people across tech, academia, and policy who also believe in an open innovation approach to today’s AI technologies,” Meta wrote in a blog post.
“Model weights and starting code for the pretrained model and conversational fine-tuned versions are also included.” We’re taking our cooperation to the next level with Microsoft as our preferred partner for Llama 2 and expanding our work in generative AI, as Satya Nadella revealed on stage at Microsoft Inspire.”
Llama 2 is now accessible in the Azure AI model catalog, allowing Microsoft Azure developers to build with it and leverage their cloud-native tools for content filtering and safety features.
It is also designed to run locally on Windows, providing developers with a streamlined workflow as they deliver generative AI experiences to users across many platforms. Llama 2 is accessible via Amazon Web Services (AWS), Hugging Face, and a variety of additional providers.
