Nissan to Manufacture Electric Editions of Qashqai and Juke in United Kingdom

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co is set to announce the production of electric versions of its Qashqai and Juke models at its Sunderland plant in northern England, according to a report by Sky News on Wednesday.

The report, citing industry sources, mentioned that Nissan would invest hundreds of millions of pounds in the project, with the British government expected to provide guarantees, although no upfront taxpayer money would be involved.

As part of an investment exceeding £1 billion ($1.25 billion), Nissan plans to manufacture two new electric models at the Sunderland plant, as reported separately by the Financial Times, citing sources briefed on the plans. While a spokesperson for Nissan in Japan declined to comment on the reports, the automaker had previously confirmed in September that one of its two new EV models for Europe would be produced at the Sunderland facility.

The announcement, expected to be made on Friday, may be attended by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Nissan Chief Executive Makoto Uchida is anticipated to provide the details.
