PTA Greenlights Wi-Fi 7 Spectrum To Boost Internet In Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially greenlights the use of the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 7. This decision will allow faster internet speeds and support next-generation applications across the country.

According to PTA, Wi-Fi 7 will deliver the fastest data rates available in Pakistan. It will enhance high-resolution video streaming, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and industrial automation. The new spectrum will also lower broadband costs, reduce congestion on older bands, and improve network reliability.

This means households, businesses, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and smart city projects will benefit from the upgrade. PTA highlighted that with Wi-Fi 7, users can expect extremely high speeds, very low latency, and stable connections needed for 8K streaming and other future-ready applications.

By approving the technology early, Pakistan greenlights a major step forward in digital connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region. This follows the earlier adoption of Wi-Fi 6E, marking consistent progress in building advanced digital infrastructure.

The development aligns closely with government goals for digital transformation. Federal IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja recently announced plans to launch 5G services in seven major cities in the coming months. She made the remarks during the 26th ITCN Asia Expo in Karachi, stressing the government’s commitment to more reliable and accessible internet nationwide.

Khawaja added that information technology is now a central element of the Pakistan-Saudi digital cooperation agreement, aimed at boosting infrastructure and economic growth. She also highlighted that inflation is easing, and Pakistan’s economy is stabilizing, with Karachi at the heart of future development.

With PTA’s decision, Pakistan greenlights a new era of connectivity, ensuring its citizens and businesses are ready for tomorrow’s digital demands.
