Toyota Launches Locally Assembled Corolla Cross Hybrid

After months of speculation, Indus Motor Company (IMC) is poised to launch its first locally assembled hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the Corolla Cross. The locally manufactured Corolla Cross Hybrid was unveiled at a line-off ceremony held in Karachi. The event was attended by Toyota officials and government dignitaries.

Mohamedali R. Habib, Chairman of IMC, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support, emphasizing the significance of the milestone as a reflection of the enduring friendship between Japan and Pakistan. Yoshiyuki Takai, President of Toyota’s Emerging-market Compact Car Company and Executive Vice President of Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing, highlighted the growing preference for HEVs in Asian countries. He expressed hope that Pakistani customers would appreciate the Corolla Cross HEV as an attractive, efficient, and exhilarating vehicle.

Asad Rehman Gilani, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production, congratulated Toyota on the milestone and underscored the government’s commitment to supporting the auto sector’s efforts in introducing hybrid and electric technologies in Pakistan. He also emphasized the importance of expediting exports to reduce the trade deficit.

Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO of IMC, disclosed that the Corolla Cross would feature an 1800cc engine, offering options for both hybrid and gasoline drivetrains in low and high-grade models. However, specific details about availability and pricing have not been shared by IMC, despite a previous viral letter containing launch and price information being refuted by the company.
