US President Donald Trump met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the White House to discuss DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company, and potential restrictions on AI chip exports. While Trump provided few details, he praised Huang and described the meeting as productive.
The discussion comes as the US prepares to tighten AI chip export controls this spring to limit China’s access to advanced computing power. Nvidia acknowledged the meeting, emphasizing the importance of strengthening US technology leadership.

DeepSeek recently launched an AI assistant that quickly became the most downloaded app on Apple’s App Store, sparking concerns over US AI dominance. The surge in Chinese AI development contributed to a market selloff, wiping out nearly $1 trillion in US tech stock value.
The Trump administration is now considering stricter controls on Nvidia’s H20 chips, designed for China. Efforts to curb AI chip exports have been ongoing since Biden’s presidency, with previous restrictions imposed on Nvidia’s H100 and H800 models.
Meanwhile, the US Commerce Department is investigating whether DeepSeek has used banned American-made chips in its AI technology.
