WhatsApp Introduces AI-Generated Profile and Group Pictures in New iOS Beta Update

WhatsApp has started introducing a new feature that lets users create AI-generated profile and group pictures, available through the latest iOS update in its TestFlight beta program.

The update, version 25.16.10.70, offers this experimental tool to a select group of testers, with plans for a wider release soon. Users can simply enter a text prompt describing the image they want, and the AI generates a unique picture from scratch.

Unlike traditional profile photo options that require existing photos, this feature enables users to craft avatars, artistic designs, or themed group icons without uploading personal images.

To use it, users can go to settings and select the profile photo option, where they’ll find the prompt to generate an AI-created image. Group icons can be edited similarly through the group info menu.

This new option addresses privacy concerns by offering a secure, creative alternative to real photos, and helps those who don’t have suitable images for their profiles.

Although initially limited to beta testers, some users on the stable iOS release have started seeing the feature, signaling a gradual rollout.

This update reflects WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to incorporate generative AI into everyday messaging tools.
