WhatsApp has introduced Group Message History, a new feature designed to make group chats more welcoming for new members. The update allows users to catch up quickly without disrupting ongoing conversations.
According to the official WhatsApp blog, โNow, group admins and members can choose to send recent messages to new members, so they can catch up quickly.โ The company emphasized that WhatsApp continues to keep all messages end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security.
When adding someone to a group, users can now send between 25 to 100 recent messages to help them understand the ongoing discussion. This eliminates the need for taking WhatsApp screenshots or forwarding multiple messages manually.
The process is simple and optional. Admins can enable or disable the feature for their groups, while they always retain the right to share message history. The feature ensures that only relevant messages are shared, keeping group chats concise and clear.
For transparency, WhatsApp notifies all group members when message history is shared. The messages appear with timestamps and sender information, making it easy to distinguish between historical messages and new conversations.
This update also helps maintain context in large groups where discussions can move quickly. New members can join without feeling lost, while existing members continue chatting without interruption.
WhatsApp has begun gradually rolling out the Group Message History feature. Users are expected to see it in their apps over the coming weeks, depending on their device and region.
The company stated that this feature reflects its ongoing effort to enhance group communication on WhatsApp, making conversations smoother, more inclusive, and private.
With this rollout, WhatsApp continues to improve usability and efficiency in group messaging, ensuring both privacy and convenience for millions of users worldwide.
