Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced the testing of a new subscription model called “Not A Bot” for a $1 annual fee.
This subscription model aims to combat bots and spammers on the platform and comes with some unique features:
Users who opt for the “Not A Bot” subscription will be charged for various actions, including likes, reposts, quoting other accounts’ posts, and bookmarking posts, specifically on the web version of the platform.
The subscription fee may vary from country to country, adjusting based on exchange rates. Initially, this new subscription will be rolled out for users in New Zealand and the Philippines.

Existing users will not be affected during the testing phase. However, new users who choose not to subscribe will have limited capabilities, allowing them only to view and read posts, watch videos, and follow accounts.
The issue of bots and spammers has been a growing concern, particularly since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year. In response, X has been implementing measures to ensure the authenticity of its user base, including limitations on viewing tweets.
In addition to the “Not A Bot” subscription, there have been discussions about X introducing a tiered subscription service based on the number of ads shown to users. This move signals the platform’s efforts to explore various monetization options and enhance the user experience while combatting spam and bot-related issues.
